Age, pollution, hormones and illnesses can fatigue the tissues and muscles in your face and can make you look older and more tired than you actually are.

Skin treatments can be beneficial in making your skin look younger. However, these treatments only have a short lifespan; after a few months, you may notice the first signs of aging or skin damage again.

If you’re looking for a more permanent facial-rejuvenation treatment, then the SMAS facelift surgery may be the perfect solution for you.

What Is the SMAS Facelift?

The SMAS facelift is a surgical treatment that seeks to tighten and lift the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) web of tissues and muscles, which covers the region from your collarbone to your forehead. By lifting the SMAS layer instead of just the skin, Dr. Ceydeli is able to achieve deeper rejuvenation in a way that offers natural-looking results.

Part of our SMAS facelift is filling gaunt regions through the use of stem cell facial fat transfer. By harvesting excess fat from other locations of the body and moving it to the face, we are able to create natural volume and revitalization.

Are You a Good Candidate for a SMAS Facelift?

The ideal candidate for a SMAS facelift is any person above the age of 40 who has experienced severe facial aging and who wishes to undergo a treatment that targets the deep layer of muscles in the face.

The SMAS facelift can treat:
• Harsh nasolabial folds
• Sagging cheeks and jowls
• Loose skin near the neck and chin and underneath the eyes

The SMAS Facelift Procedure

In this procedure, local anesthesia will be administered; general anesthesia will not be necessary. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Ceydeli will proceed to carefully create an incision and lift the facial skin.

He will then tighten and lift the areas of the SMAS web that have become loose and droopy over time. He will define the muscles around the nose, jawline, and forehead to give the face greater shape and definition. He will end the surgery by trimming away excess skin and then closing the incision using medical-grade sutures.

Additional procedures are often included with the facelift procedure, such as valentine anguloplasty to raise the corners of the lips and placement of facial implants to create better definition.

The Recovery Process After a SMAS Facelift

Recovery after the SMAS facelift takes around seven to fifteen days, and patients are advised not to move their facial muscles too much right after the surgery. Post-surgical swelling and tenderness will reduce within a few days after the treatment.

The results of the SMAS facelift can last for years, with some patients experiencing the benefits of this treatment for more than a decade.
