Thanks to a number of advancements in the medical field, liposuction has come a long way. In the past, traditional liposuction techniques were notorious for their long recovery times. Liposuction took months to heal from and show any results.

Public opinion of liposuction has been gradually improving over the years due to advancements in the field. New and improved techniques of liposuction have enabled many patients to experience the body-sculpting benefits of liposuction without a long recovery period.

The water-assisted technique is one of the most important liposuction advancements. Water-assisted liposuction (WAL) offers the same benefits as traditional liposuction, along with the unique advantages of being gentle and causing less injury to the tissues.

Liposuction is not an alternative for weight loss, but it is ideal when it comes to shedding the last few pockets of stubborn fat that are immune to dieting or exercise.

What Is the WAL Technique?

The WAL technique is thought to be the gentlest of all liposuction techniques. WAL uses tumescent fluid, which is also used in the tumescent technique. Tumescent fluid helps to minimize bleeding and has many other benefits.

The key difference between the WAL technique and the tumescent technique is the way the fat is dislodged from the surrounding tissues. Instead of utilizing a cannula to loosen fat, the WAL technique uses a pressure spray of fluid to dislodge the fat from the connective tissues. This spray does not cause unnecessary trauma to the area in the same way that a cannula does.

During WAL, fluid is simultaneously instilled and suctioned out, which minimizes the swelling and distortion in the treated areas. WAL also employs local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia, making the overall process even gentler. This leads to a shorter recovery time.

WAL is performed by Dr. Ceydeli to contour areas on your body where small stubborn pockets of fat are present. It is an outpatient procedure and takes between one to two hours to be performed.

After Your WAL Procedure

Arrange to have a ride home from a friend or a family member before you come in for the WAL procedure. Having help at hand at home for the next couple of days will make a major difference, so arranging for it is recommended.

Following Dr. Ceydeli’s post-surgical care instructions is the best way to have a comfortable recovery that is as short as possible. Make sure to follow them as closely as possible.

You may experience some minor swelling or numbness from having the technique performed, but this will dissipate soon. Dr. Ceydeli may prescribe medication to help you deal with any discomfort.

You may be asked to wear a compression garment for a time after the procedure. This garment will control any post-surgical swelling and help the skin better fit the new contours of the treatment area.

After you have recovered from water-assisted liposuction, maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise will help you keep the results intact.
